Singapore Airlines has been named best airline and best business class in the annual Skytrax awards.
In the business class category, the airline beat off competition from Air New Zealand in second place and British Airways in third.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said: "The business class seat is marketed by Singapore Airlines as 'The most spacious the world has ever seen', and whilst maybe not suited to every passenger's taste, it remains a clear quality benchmark for long-haul business class."
Virgin Atlantic won the award for best business class lounge for the second year running for its Clubhouse facility at London Heathrow. British Airways jumped back into the top five with opening of its new lounges at terminal 5.
Plaisted said: "British Airways lounges have not been at the leading edge in terms of quality for quite a number of years but they have created something quite special with their new facilities at Terminal 5, and we would expect to see some strong performances from them in years to come."
Easyjet was named as best low-cost carrier in the awards, which are now in their tenth year. More than 15 million people of 95 nationalities expressed their opinions in choosing the awards.

Asian airlines have always scored highly in my book.
SIA have a great manner and Cathy also with very attentive service across the whole three classes.
BA don`t get my custom as I learned 20 years ago that the best way to repay arrogant and haughty service is simple-ignore it by going elsewhere

What really stunned me was Qantas managing to win anything except the Worst full cost carrier in any OECD country wooden spoon. I last flew with them 20 years ago and would rather row than pay for their service again.
Dr T. Lau, Auckland, New Zealand
I agree Singapore has the best business class seats but you have to be in the ER ,extended range planes to have them otherwise they are old lounge chairs. The best for every international flight is Qantas as you will be guaranteed a flat bed, followed by Cathay Pacific and British Airways
Harry Stacpoole, Launceston, Australia
The Skytrax awards reflect who has spent the most on advertising with them during the past 12 months. Also people can make false statements about airlines under the comments section and Skytrax charge airlines advertising rates to change it. So airlines have grown to ignore the comments.

I can't understand how BA are in the top 10. Many of their staff have a serious attitude problem. SIA on the other hand with the new beds on the A380 are wonderful.
Fred, Sydney, Australia
I can't see how Singapore Airlines beat out Virgin. The SpaceBed in Singapore's business class doesn't lay totally flat (8 Degrees) and the various extras you offered on the flight are below that of Upper Class (Sleeper suits, for example). As for BA, they deserve nothing....
Matthew, Epping, UK
I cannot understand how BA won anything. In my opinon their are at least 10 airlines offering better service than BA, whose onboard staff are surly and have a reluctance to help attitude. I gave up flying with them for business purposes years ago ; nothing since has persuaded me to try them again
DAWN Milne, London, London
I always enjoy flying BA, I'll give Singapore a whirl for comparison purposes.

How the heck did BA get any award other than for Worst Everything??? Sounds like a bribery game to me!!!
Jonathan Sklan-Willis, Manchester, England
The Skytrax awards are bizarre and inconsistent.
Saying that, for these particular awards for this particular year, the Best Business Class award is deserved. The Singapore Airlines product is amazing and so spacious.
The Virgin Clubhouse is equally fantastic with great staff and facilities.
